Dodgers' Hill returns to DL with blister issue
Rich Hill's troublesome blister problem just won't go away, and it forced the Los Angeles Dodgers to return him to the 10-day disabled list Monday following a recurrence of the issue in his start Sunday.
There is no timetable for his return.
Los Angeles recalled Rob Segedin from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take Hill's place on the 25-man roster. Alex Wood will reportedly take Hill's scheduled start Friday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times.
Hill has made just two starts this season, and has already spent time on the DL this month because of the blister - an issue that's been recurring since last season when he was still pitching in Oakland. After being activated from the DL on Sunday, the southpaw's return start lasted just three innings before the blister flared up again, necessitating that he return to the sidelines.
"Ten days wasn't enough," manager Dave Roberts said, according to McCullough.
Dodgers pitching coach Rick Honeycutt told Ken Gurnick of MLB.com that Hill's blister is located "in an unusual place compared to most pitchers," and that it's currently affecting multiple pitches in his arsenal. Roberts added that the team is "baffled" by the situation.
The 37-year-old Hill, who signed a three-year, $48-million deal with Los Angeles over the winter, owns a 3.38 ERA in eight innings this season.
