White: McGregor and I have agreed on Mayweather deal, lawyers holding it up
If Dana White's latest comments are to be believed, he and Conor McGregor are on the same page when it comes to signing on to fight Floyd Mayweather.
The UFC president recently said he'd be setting a Sunday deadline to work out the McGregor side of the potential crossover bout, but it would already be resolved if it weren't for other parties meddling in the negotiations, he told ESPN's Brett Okamoto.
"We're right there to get this deal done, we've just gotta get the deal done," said White. "I would like to get it done this Sunday and start negotiating with Team Mayweather. If that deal can get done then we'll get it done. And if it can't, I need to move on.
"Conor and I have agreed on a deal," he added. "Then you get a bunch of lawyers involved and it gets stupid."
White expects to meet with Mayweather advisor Al Haymon either in Las Vegas or Los Angeles later this week. He also noted that the fight is at risk of being put off altogether if it doesn't go down in 2017, echoing the sentiments of Showtime executive vice president Steven Espinoza.
"It's either going to happen this year or it's never going to happen at all," said White. "This isn't something that I'm going to spend a bunch of time on, like I'm going to dedicate the next three months of my life to."
