The Buffalo Sabres drafted Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen with the 54th overall pick at the 2017 NHL Draft.

Luukkonen missed time at the start of the season due to pneumonia, but returned to play 35 games with the Finnish junior team. He was expected to make the jump to HPK's men's squad next year whether he was drafted or not.
His size is his best asset, but he's also extremely agile for someone measuring in at 6-foot-4. While he lacks experience playing against pros, he has handled top junior competition by leading Finland to the gold medal at the 2016 IIHF Under-18 World Championships.
