The Seattle Seahawks will honor one of the franchise's all-time greats by wearing a decal of Cortez Kennedy's jersey number on their helmets for the 2017 season.

Kennedy died May 23 in Orlando, Fla. The defensive tackle starred for the Seahawks from 1990 to 2000 and was named a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012.

"It's an honor to wear his number on our helmets," linebacker Bobby Wagner said in a team release. "He meant a lot to this franchise."

Though he didn't get to enjoy much team success during his years on the field, Kennedy was named the league's Defensive Player of the Year in 1992, reached eight Pro Bowls, and was voted onto five All-Pro teams.
