Report: Mayweather retracts Aug. 26 date request for McGregor bout
The latest Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor rumor was barely out of the box before it was brushed aside.
On Monday, it was reported that Mayweather Promotions had reserved an Aug. 26 date at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas for the prospective crossover bout, but that request has already been verbally retracted according to Lance Pugmire of the Los Angeles Times, citing Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Bob Bennett.
The request was to be discussed at an NSAC meeting Wednesday and Bennett clarified that the date is not necessarily off the table.
While both fighters appear to be amicable to the boxing match, which is expected to be one of the most lucrative sporting events in history, there are several parties factoring into the negotiations, including McGregor's associates in the UFC and WME-IMG, Mayweather's management, and Mayweather's partners at Showtime Sports.
Bennett is optimistic that a deal will be negotiated at some point, even if the exact date is still in question.
"Is anything done? No," Bennett said, according to Pugmire. "Do I believe the fight will probably come to fruition? Yes."
