Luck unsure shoulder will heal before camp; Pagano 'praying'

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck's recovery from shoulder surgery seems to be going more slowly than expected, a concerning situation for head coach Chuck Pagano.

Luck underwent an operation in January and has been ordered not to participate in this week's mandatory minicamp. Asked if he'd be ready to return when training camp starts, Luck remained non-committal, indicating he's focused on his ongoing rehab rather than targeting a specific date.

"To be honest, I have not thought about it," Luck said Tuesday, according to Zak Keefer of The Indianapolis Star. "If I'm ready for it, then great. If I'm not, then that's the way it is. I'm certainly hopeful for it. In my mind all I can do - and I truly feel this way - with this rehab, with my shoulder, I can't look five months down the road, three months down the road, a week down the road. To me, it's about the next rehab session, the next day. That's where my focus is and that's where I think it needs to be to truly get back to 100 percent."

Luck also tried to assuage fans' fears.

"They don't need to have any concerns. It'll be fine," Luck said.

Pagano's reiterated throughout the summer that the Colts won't put a timetable on Luck's return, but he appears to be growing worried about the quarterback's inactivity.

"Am I hopeful? Am I praying? Yeah. So is everybody," Pagano said, according to Mike Chappell of FOX 59. "We all want him out there."

Luck dictates the direction of the Colts' season, explaining Pagano's crescendoing concern. Indianapolis is hoping to return to the playoffs for the first time since 2014.
