Report: Red Sox looking for 'major upgrades,' including 3B
The Boston Red Sox are hoping to put an end to their "Panda-monium" at the hot corner.
Boston is looking to make "major upgrades" before the trade deadline on July 31, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. However, their priority for improvements, Feinsand notes, is at the hot corner - a position employed by Pablo Sandoval, who's currently on the disabled list due to an ear infection.
"Sandoval is basically a non-entity at this point," a source told Feinsand. "They need to make a move there."
Sandoval has never been able to live up to the five-year, $95-million contract he signed with Boston in 2015. After missing nearly the entire 2016 campaign due to shoulder surgery, injuries again sidelined Sandoval in 2017 as he missed 32 games between April and May with a sprained knee. He was then placed on the 10-day disabled list for a second time this season Tuesday.
In 99 at-bats for Boston in 2017, Sandoval is slashing .212/.269/.354 with four home runs and 12 RBIs.
