Report: Celtics trying to trade for Anthony Davis

Danny Ainge is forever searching for his next superstar, or at least he's always rumored to be.

The latest trade target for the Boston Celtics is New Orleans Pelicans franchise cornerstone Anthony Davis. However, there is little reason, or interest, from the Pelicans to part ways with Davis, who is under club control for four more years, according to Chris Mannix of The Vertical.

The Celtics certainly have more than enough assets to make almost any deal happen. They could hold up to nine first-round picks in the next three seasons, with several selections slated to be in the lottery. They are the obvious trade partner for any franchise looking to rebuild.

However, stars like Davis are few and far between. The Pelicans just recently recommitted themselves to building around Davis with the acquisition of DeMarcus Cousins at the trade deadline, and with so many years of control left on his deal, there is simply no reason for New Orleans to offload its star.

Davis is coming off yet another brilliant campaign in which he averaged 28 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks while shooting 50.5 percent from the field. He is the premier two-way big in the league and is still only 24.
