Report: Grizzlies will only offer Allen the veteran's minimum
The Memphis Grizzlies are only prepared to offer unrestricted free-agent guard Tony Allen the veteran's minimum this summer, Ronald Tillery of the the Memphis Commercial Appeal told Sports 56 WHBQ's Peter Edmiston on Wednesday.
Allen made $5.5 million this past season, and the veteran's minimum is projected to be approximately $2.4 million in 2017-18.
The 35-year-old has been synonymous with the Grizzlies' "Grindhouse" culture since arriving in Memphis in 2010, and despite losing a step, Allen remains a fan favorite. He averaged 9.1 points and 5.5 rebounds in 2016-17, still providing reliable defense.
The Grizzlies have other free-agent decisions to make, including another longtime franchise anchor in Zach Randolph. Forty-year-old Vince Carter will hit the unrestricted market, as well.
