Report: United close to completing £40M deal for Chelsea's Matic
Manchester United is on the verge of adding Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic to the fold, as manager Jose Mourinho eagerly attempts to rebuild his squad before the beginning of the team's summer preparations.
The Serbian midfielder, who is believed to be Mourinho's top target, is expected to sign on with United within the next week for a reported price of £40 million, according to ESPN FC's Mark Ogden.
Matic's possible arrival would mark United's second signing of the summer after Victor Lindelof joined the Premier League outfit from Benfica earlier this month.
The transfer would also mark the second time Chelsea has sold the 28-year-old. The Blues offloaded Matic to Benfica as part of a swap deal for David Luiz in 2011 that cost the English side £21 million before Chelsea opted to bring him back in three years later for a similar price.
United is also reportedly in pursuit of Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata, who Mourinho is eager to sign before the team travels to the United States on July 9 to begin pre-season training.
The transfer is expected to coincide with Tiemoue Bakayoko's reported arrival at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea closes in on a €40-million transfer for the AS Monaco midfielder.
