Blaydes outpoints Omielanczuk in 3-round snoozer

He may have picked up the victory, but Curtis Blaydes will want to block his latest fight from his memory - pronto.

After three rounds of clinches, failed takedown attempts and subpar striking, "Razor" was awarded the W by three 30-27 scores for a unanimous decision over fellow heavyweight Daniel Omielanczuk at UFC 213 in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Blaydes picked up his second straight win with the verdict - a streak excluding a February TKO of Adam Milstead that was later overturned to a no-contest when he tested positive for marijuana.

Despite the lopsided decision, Blaydes failed to impose his will or land a telling blow on the durable Omielanczuk, who made it to the final horn thanks to his stout takedown defense, although he couldn't buy one of his own.

Blaydes didn't possess the striking to set up his shots and put the Pole on his back, but his initiative in both the striking and grappling exchanges were enough to keep his foe on the back foot and sway the judges.

The Oklahoma native improved his UFC record to 2-1 with his first win by decision, while Omielanczuk's third straight loss has him flirting with the chopping block.
