Ben Simmons: 'I'm a starting point guard'
Ben Simmons still has every intention of running the point.
"I think you can move me anywhere," he told reporters Sunday at summer league, as quoted by philly.com's Keith Pompey. "But I'm a starting point guard."
The Philadelphia 76ers drafted the 6-foot-10 LSU forward first overall in 2016 with the plan of making him their floor general after he showed flashes of great court vision, ball-handling skills, and passing ability.
Simmons, who missed all of last season due to a right foot injury, has been rehabbing and preparing to be the club's primary facilitator.
Though head coach Brett Brown has been adamant that the 20-year-old Aussie is the team's point guard of the future, earlier this year, center Joel Embiid revealed he covets the role.

However, when Embiid was asked ahead of this year's draft what type of player the Sixers should choose with their lottery selection, the 2014 No. 3 pick replied: "I think we really need a point guard."
The team went on to land the third overall pick, which it flipped for the top selection and took Markelle Fultz, who played at the one-spot at Washington.
Simmons is impressed with his new teammate's play at summer league, and thinks Fultz would complement him well in Philly's backcourt, with the rookie - who's a better shooter - slotting in at the two.
"I have no problem sharing the ball," Simmons said. "He doesn't, either. Watching him play, he can share the ball."
Brown will have to figure out a rotation that promotes the development of the prized rooks while factoring in the role of veteran shooting guard J.J. Redick, who joins the squad on a one-year deal worth a reported $23 million.
If things go according to plan, Simmons would easily be one of the biggest point guards ever. The Sixers hope the unique talent will be one of the best ones, too.
