Lonzo Ball ruled out of summer league final with calf strain

NBA fans looking forward to getting one more glimpse of No. 2 overall pick Lonzo Ball in the Las Vegas Summer League are going to be sorely disappointed.

The 19-year-old point guard has been ruled out of Monday's tournament final against the Portland Trail Blazers due to a mild calf strain in his right leg he suffered Sunday against the Dallas Mavericks.

The Lakers don't begin their preseason schedule until Sept. 30 when they take on the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Honda Center in Anaheim, which would be the earliest opportunity fans would have to catch Ball competing for the organization again.

Ball left Sunday's semifinal matchup with Dallas at the 6:26 mark of the third quarter, finishing with a line of 16 points, 10 assists, four rebounds, and zero turnovers in 21 minutes of action. He also donned Jordan 31s, which was the second time he's elected to wear a pair of Nikes over his signature Big Baller Brand Z02s.

In six total appearances, the UCLA alumnus averaged 16.3 points, 9.3 dimes, 7.7 boards, 2.5 steals, and a rejection in 32.5 minutes, albeit on just 38.2 percent shooting from the field. Ball also notched two triple-doubles, which are the first in over seven years in the summer league.
