Irving: Cavaliers in 'peculiar place'

The Cleveland Cavaliers are one of the premier franchises in the NBA. But behind closed doors, things don't seem quite as rosy.

Franchise icon LeBron James is reportedly concerned about the organization, and now it seems superstar point guard Kyrie Irving may be in the same boat.

Speaking at Sports Illustrated's Fashionable 50 event Tuesday night, Irving was asked about James' reported frustration and gave a less than ringing endorsement of the franchise's current state.

"We're in a peculiar place," Irving stated to SI. "We just have to make sure all our pieces are aligned first, and then we go from there. ...

"It's the summertime, a lot of craziness going on in the NBA, so best to just observe and then see what happens."

While Irving is right about the NBA's crazy offseason, the idea of sitting back to "observe" is seemingly what has left the franchise in this specific state. As teams like the Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Minnesota Timberwolves made franchise-altering moves, the Cavaliers remained idle in the Eastern Conference.

The Cavs' roster is extremely top heavy with James, Irving, and Kevin Love being the only players who averaged more than 11 points per game last year. Outside of that big three, a plethora of aging veterans round out the roster, offering spontaneous but unreliable production.
