Report: Lakers meeting with Derrick Rose
The Derrick Rose sweepstakes are suddenly heating up.
Following reports of interest from the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Los Angeles Lakers are also interested in signing Rose, and they will meet with and pitch the 28-year-old Thursday, sources told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne and Chris Haynes.
The Cavaliers are reportedly in "serious talks" with Rose, but the Lakers can offer more playing time and a bigger salary. Nevertheless, given their offseason ambitions for 2018, the Lakers will most likely only offer a one-year deal.
Los Angeles is presumably looking for a veteran guard to show Lonzo Ball the ropes in his rookie season. That same goal led the Lakers to pursue Rajon Rondo, who eventually opted for the New Orleans Pelicans.
Rose averaged 18 points and 4.4 assists last season on 47.1 percent shooting.
