Report: Cavaliers set to hire Koby Altman as GM
The Cleveland Cavaliers are reportedly set to hire Koby Altman as their new general manager, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Altman previously held the assistant position under former general manager David Griffin.
The whirlwind of news out of Cleveland simply won't stop. After news broke regarding point guard Kyrie Irving asking for a trade and his four preferred destinations, the Cavaliers have seemingly made some sort of positive progress.
Altman, who held the assistant position under recently released Griffin, originally joined the Cavs in 2012 as a personnel manager. He then became the director of pro player personnel in September 2013.
Now head of a team caught in an absolute roller coaster of an offseason, Altman will be under a microscope like no other executive in the league.
His first order of business will be handling the developing trade situation around Irving. Potentially bigger than Irving, though, is the looming rumor franchise icon LeBron James may skip town once again at the end of the 2017-2018 season.
Should Altman overlook the departures of both Irving and James in the next year, his tenure as general manager will be off to an extremely rocky start.
