Beltre becomes 1st Dominican-born player to reach 3,000 hits
It seems only appropriate that Adrian Beltre would record his 3,000th career hit just minutes after Texas Rangers legend Ivan Rodriguez wrapped up his Hall of Fame speech in Cooperstown.
The Rangers third baseman ripped a double off Baltimore Orioles left-hander Wade Miley down the third base line in the fourth inning of Sunday's game to become the 31st player in major-league history, and the first Dominican-born player, to reach 3,000 hits.
Beltre immediately received a standing ovation from the fans at Globe Life Park and was greeted on the field by his family as play stopped to acknowledge his accomplishment.
The 38-year-old is in his 20th major-league season and needed 2,771 games to reach the milestone. Beltre collected 1,111 of his career hits with the Rangers, 949 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, 751 with the Seattle Mariners, and 189 with the Boston Red Sox.
