Wall 'won't stop' until he leads Wizards to championship

John Wall is sticking around in the nation's capital for the long haul in hopes of winning it all.

The Washington Wizards held a press conference Friday to officially announce they signed their starting point guard to a super-max extension.

The 26-year-old All-Star, who reportedly inked a four-year extension worth a whopping $170 million, made his lofty goal for the club abundantly clear.

"This is the team I want to be with for the rest of my career and I won't stop until we get to hang a banner in the rafters," he said.

The Wizards bowed out in the Eastern Conference semifinals last postseason when they couldn't contain unlikely Boston Celtics hero Kelly Olynyk in Game 7. The organization focused the majority of its effort this offseason on retaining RFA Otto Porter and locking up Wall through 2023.

Wall isn't upset that the Wiz didn't do more to improve, because in his mind they're right there in terms of title contention.

"We're close," he said. "My ultimate goal is to make to the Eastern Conference finals and see where we go from there."

Team owner Ted Leonsis previously echoed that sentiment, saying the elite guard makes the Wizards a "championship-caliber team.''

The former first overall pick is coming off a career year in which he averaged 23.1 points, 10.7 dimes, 4.2 boards, and two steals per contest. His dominance led to him earning his fourth All-Star nod and first All-NBA honor.

Wall figures to continue racking up the accolades since he's just entering his prime, but he's more concerned about capturing the Larry O'Brien trophy.

"I want to thank all the great fans here in D.C., we have unfinished business and that's why I committed to stay here in this city," he said.
