Starkville strip club to host 'Hugh Freeze Tribute Party'
The Pony strip club in Starkville, Miss., is hosting a "Hugh Freeze Tribute Party" on Saturday night, a mocking homage to the former Ole Miss coach.
As part of the event, doormen will waive the cover charge for entrants who look like Freeze, who used to prohibit Ole Miss players from visiting strip clubs. Starkville, of course, is home to Mississippi State, Ole Miss' Egg Bowl rival.
"We'll be ringing the bell in tribute to Hugh and wish him nothing but the best as he seeks to further his coaching career at some community college in the Pacific Northwest," the club's owner, Jerry Westlund told USA TODAY Sports' Dan Wolken.
Freeze abruptly resigned from Ole Miss in July after an outgoing call to at least one escort service was discovered on his phone records.
"He was willing to go out there and attack people who come to my club," Westlund said, referring to the way Freeze often brought up his Christianity and the ban for his players. "If you want to call an escort service, knock yourself out. You could have come to my club and gotten a lap dance and made a friend just as quick."
