Report: 8 Dodgers reps attended latest outing from Otani
The Los Angeles Dodgers already possess a juggernaut of a team, but it appears they're in the market for the next Babe Ruth.
Eight members of the Dodgers organization, including president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman, were in attendance to watch Shohei Otani on Sunday, according to a report from Sponichi, which was translated by Kazuto Yamazaki.
Otani, a two-way player capable of pitching and hitting, threw a 58-pitch pre-game bullpen, then went 3-for-3 with a walk.
The 23-year-old Japanese sensation has drawn comparisons to Ruth, and is expected to be the most sought-after free agent of the offseason if he decides to make the switch to Major League Baseball.
Otani was already visited by Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels, who voyaged overseas to take a closer look last May.
Over the course of 39 games this season in the Japan Pacific League, Otani has hit .341/.397/.561 with five home runs and 14 RBIs, but has only made one appearance as a pitcher, allowing four earned runs in 1 1/3 innings of work.
He missed six weeks of action earlier this year with a leg injury and opted out of the World Baseball Classic last March because of an ankle injury.
