Watch: Bellinger breaks Dodgers rookie record with 36th HR

Cody Bellinger's tie with Mike Piazza for home runs by a Los Angeles Dodgers rookie lasted just one day, as the 22-year-old first baseman went deep off of San Diego Padres closer Brad Hand to collect his 36th of the year.

Bellinger has taken baseball by storm since getting called up at the end of April for - what seemed at the time - a temporary injury replacement. Instead, the young Dodgers slugger has posted an unbelievable .957 OPS through his first 106 games.

A lock to win National League Rookie of the Year at this point, Bellinger sits as the 10th-best hitter in the NL coming into Sunday's contest, according to wRC+.

Piazza set the franchise record back in 1993, requiring 149 games and 602 plate appearances to do so. Meanwhile, Bellinger accomplished the feat in 440 trips to the plate.
