Report: Hodgson set to succeed De Boer at Crystal Palace
After flirting with a totaalvoetbal philosophy under former Ajax manager Frank de Boer for merely 77 days, Crystal Palace is apparently now opting for a more pragmatic approach by hiring ex-England boss Roy Hodgson.
The well-travelled veteran will be appointed Monday, according to the Guardian's Dominic Fifield, returning to the club he represented as a youth-team player in the mid-1960s.
De Boer was given the boot following a fourth consecutive defeat to begin the Premier League season without scoring a goal - the first time a team has that unwanted record since Preston North End in 1924-25. The Dutchman's attempts to introduce slick passing upon the foundations of a back-three in Croydon was quickly exposed, leaving the manager picking up the pieces after he suffered a similarly short term in charge of Inter Milan last season.

Now Crystal Palace is expected to opt for experience in the shape of Hodgson. The 70-year-old has been out of work since he oversaw the shameful last-16 elimination from Euro 2016 at the hands of Iceland. His previous club role was with West Bromwich Albion, which he helped haul from the relegation mire and turn into a mid-table outfit before he took the England job in 2012.
Ray Lewington, who was on the Palace coaching staff in the 1990s, is expected to assist Hodgson in his new post.
