Report: Louisville fires athletic director Jurich

The house of Cardinals has started to collapse.

Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich has reportedly been relieved of his duties with the college, according to ESPN Louisville's John Ramsey.

The ousting comes less than 24 hours after bombshell federal charges were brought against numerous NCAA coaches and an executive of athletic apparel titan Adidas for allegedly bribing advisers of potential recruits to guide their young charges toward Adidas-sponsored programs.

Louisville released a statement Tuesday acknowledging its program was also under federal investigation. Hall of Fame coach Rick Pitino offered a separate statement, saying the report came "as a complete shock" and if true, the corruption within his program was "initiated by a few bad actors."

Pitino is also expected to be fired Wednesday, a source within Louisville's athletic department told ESPN's Michael Eaves. The 65-year-old met with interim Executive Vice President for Health Affairs Gregory Postel for approximately five minutes Wednesday morning. When asked about rumors of his dismissal, Pitino gave no comment to reporters assembled outside Postel's office.

Jurich reportedly refused to to fire Pitino, according to sources of WAVE-TV sports director Kent Taylor.
