Girardi hopes replay gaffe doesn't affect future with Yankees

Joe Girardi's contract as manager of the New York Yankees expires after the postseason. And there's been some speculation that he may not be brought back.

The rumblings stem from his blunder in Game 2 of the American League Division Series against the Cleveland Indians when he failed to request a review on a hit-by-pitch call on Lonnie Chisenhall. Replays showed that it should have been called a foul ball. The next batter, Francisco Lindor, hit a grand slam and the Indians would later win.

Girardi hopes the mistake, which he took responsibility for, doesn't cost him his future as the team's manager, according to the NY Daily News' Mike Mazzeo.

"You hope it doesn't come to that, but there are a lot of people that are upset with me," Girardi said. "And that's all part of it. And that's something that I have to deal with. The only thing I can do is give my best to this team moving forward. And that's what I'll do."

Despite his preference to remain with the club, he says he'll accept whatever choice is made by Hal Steinbrenner and general manager Brian Cashman.

"I think an organization has to do what they're comfortable with, right, and it may not always agree with the person that is either being fired or however it goes. But I think that's Hal and Brian's decision. Whatever their decision is, you know, I'll live with it," Girardi said.

The Yankees look to stave off elimination against the Indians Sunday night at Yankee Stadium.
