Lin: Martin 'extremely apologetic' when we discussed dreadlocks diss
Jeremy Lin and Kenyon Martin talked and settled their differences.
Earlier this week, Martin criticized Lin's new hairstyle, saying the Asian-American Brooklyn Nets guard wants to "be black."
Lin responded gracefully, saying his new 'do is a sign of appreciation and respect for African-American culture, the same way Martin's Chinese text character tattoos should be for Asian culture.
Martin clarified his comments afterward, saying he was joking and that Lin can "rock any hairstyle he wants." The former NBA All-Star went a step further by expressing his remorse to Lin in person.
"He reached out and he was extremely apologetic … it was a great conversation," Lin told reporters following Sunday's win over the New York Knicks, as quoted by Anthony Puccio of NetsDaily.
"I think things were blown out of proportion, taken a little out of context as well. But me and him had a discussion where he was extremely courteous."
The 29-year-old combo guard also expressed sympathy for Martin, who received many messages on social media from people accusing him of being racist, while others slung racial slurs at him and his family.
"I'm actually impressed with how he handled everything. I'm thankful for the conversation we had and I'm also sorry for some of the things he and his son kind of had to deal with in the aftermath."
"I'm just processing everything that's happening and kind of felt he was dehumanized to some degree. I wish it didn't happen like that, but we're beyond that and hopefully I don't have to speak about this incident or my hair anymore."
