UNLV hockey coach injured in Las Vegas shooting released from hospital

UNLV men's assistant hockey coach Nick Robone was released from a Las Vegas hospital Tuesday, a little over a week after he suffered a gunshot wound to the chest in the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest festival.

Robone released a statement on Twitter thanking the staff at Sunrise Hospital, as well as friends, family, and strangers for their support during his recovery.

"You've all shown me a sense of compassion that I'll be spending the rest of my life (hopefully much longer now) repaying," Robone wrote.

The 28-year-old was with friends and his younger brother, firefighter Anthony Robone, when he was struck. Anthony explained to Alex Prewitt of Sports Illustrated that he tended to Nick's wound and then stayed behind to help others.

"There was a lot that needed to be done," Anthony said. "And I knew my brother is a tough m-----------. He gave me a nod like, 'You go handle it.'"

A GoFundMe page set up to assist with Nick's medical costs has raised more than $65,000 to date.
