Cavs agree to trade Jefferson, Felder to Hawks

The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed in principle to send Richard Jefferson and Kay Felder, two second-round picks in 2019 and 2020, and approximately $3 million in cash, to the Atlanta Hawks, the team confirmed.

Atlanta will return the draft rights of European prospects Dimitrios Agravanis and Sergii Gladyr, Sam Amick of USA Today reports.

Both Jefferson and Felder, meanwhile, will reportedly be waived by the Hawks, making them free agents.

The move was likely made as a roster-clearing measure, as the Cavaliers had 16 guaranteed contracts on their books following the late addition of Dwyane Wade. That left the 37-year-old Jefferson as the odd man out.

Jefferson was a limited, but solid contributor to the Cavaliers over the last two seasons. His defensive ability, willingness to give a hard foul, semi-reliable 3-point shooting, and his occasional penchant for surprisingly powerful dunks made him a useful rotation player for the reigning Eastern Conference champions.

Felder, meanwhile, was an intriguing third-string point guard the Cavaliers never quite found time for.
