Irving doesn't regret curse at heckler, but apologizes to children
Warning: Story contains coarse language
Kyrie Irving admitted Saturday that he cursed at a heckling fan while leaving the floor after the Boston Celtics' 102-92 win over the 76ers in Philadelphia on Friday.
The remark was caught on video after someone in the stands yelled, "Kyrie, where's LeBron?"
Irving replied with a crude sexual suggestion.
Irving took responsibility for what he said and apologized to the children who may have heard it, but told reporters he doesn't regret the lewd rejoinder.
"Hell no," he said. "(If he's) mad enough to record it on video, then that's on him. Glad that he got his @ name out there, five seconds of fame and it going viral.
"I take full responsibility for what I said, excuse the kids at home. You move on."
Irving added that it can be hard to keep emotions in check and swallow one's tongue when dealing with the stresses and pressures of NBA competition.
"At the end of the day we're human," he said. "If it's in the heat of the moment and frustration arises ... we were at halftime, down by four."
Irving said he hasn't yet heard from the NBA office, but he'll almost certainly face fine this coming week. New Orleans Pelicans center DeMarcus Cousins picked up a $25,000 fine Saturday for cursing at a fan in Memphis on Wednesday.
"It's up to the league at this point," Irving said.
