Darvish fails to finish 2nd inning as WS woes continue
Yu Darvish is not going to look back at this World Series very fondly.
For a second consecutive start in the 2017 Fall Classic, Darvish was lit up by the Houston Astros and failed to get out of the second inning. When he departed after just 1 2/3 innings pitched, the Los Angeles Dodgers found themselves facing a 5-0 deficit in Game 7.
In his Game 3 start at Minute Maid Park, Darvish also lasted just 1 2/3 innings. His ERA for the series now sits at an inflated 21.60.
Game | IP | R | ER | H | HR | BB | K | Game Score |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Game 3 | 1.2 | 6 | 6 | 4 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 26 |
Game 7 | 1.2 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 21 |
On this night, Darvish gave up two runs in the first inning, though one of them was unearned. In the second, he allowed three more to score, with George Springer's record-tying two-run homer ultimately chasing him from the contest.
Darvish's abbreviated start is now tied with Tim Hudson in 2014 for the sixth-shortest in Game 7 of a World Series, according to Baseball-Reference.
Brandon Morrow replaced Darvish and struck out Alex Bregman to end the second inning.
