Gobert to miss 4-6 weeks with bone bruise in knee
It's time to face the music: the Utah Jazz will be without the anchor of their defense for at least the next month.
Rudy Gobert will miss the next four weeks before having the bone bruise in his right knee reevaluated, the team announced Sunday.
Gobert was initially diagnosed with an injury to his knee Friday night after colliding with Heat guard Dion Waiters while attempting to corral a loose ball. Though the injury was deemed significant enough to warrant Gobert's return to the locker room for examination, he did re-enter the game in the fourth quarter.
After the game, Gobert called out Waiters for what he perceived to be a "dirty play."
"He just dove right into my knee," Gobert told Eric Woodyard of the Deseret News. "Kind of like the same thing that happened before on my MCL so my knee just went inside and kind of popped inside and back out."
Waiters took umbrage with that assessment.
"I've never been a dirty player in my life," he told the media Sunday.
Through 12 appearances this season, Gobert has averaged 13.9 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game.
