Report: Cardinals, Rays discussed trade involving Colome
The St. Louis Cardinals' search for relief help has the club looking at the reigning major-league saves leader.
St. Louis and the Tampa Bay Rays have reportedly discussed closer Alex Colome in trade talks, according to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
Colome posted a 3.24 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 58 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings last season while also converting 47 saves. The right-hander owns a 2.63 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 84 saves since moving into the closer role for Tampa Bay in 2016.
The Cardinals appear to be active buyers this offseason as the club tries to rebound from missing the postseason in back-to-back years - the first time since 2007-2008. In addition to Colome, the club has also been rumored to be interested in relievers Wade Davis and Greg Holland.
