Report: Cardinals have made trade offer for Stanton
Another day, another trade proposal for Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton.
The St. Louis Cardinals, a team believed to be in hot pursuit of the 2017 National League MVP, have made a formal offer to the Marlins for Stanton, a source told Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

It remains to be seen what the Cardinals would include in a package for Stanton, who is owed $295 million on his current deal - a contract that includes an opt-out clause in 2020. Despite the ongoing interest, the Marlins asking price is also said to be "shockingly high."
In addition to the Cardinals, who are said to be "determined" in the Stanton sweepstakes, the San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox are believed to have made, or will make, their own offers to the Marlins. Stanton has a full no-trade clause, meaning he'd have to approve any deal, and there has been conflicting reports that the 28-year-old would not accept a trade to the Red Sox or Cardinals.
Stanton is coming off an incredible season that saw him hit .281/.376/.631 with 59 home runs and 132 RBIs. He also finished with a career-high 6.9 WAR, eventually leading to his first MVP award, edging out Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto for the hardware.
