Report: Giants meeting with Stanton's reps
It appears we're inching toward a conclusion in the Giancarlo Stanton trade saga.
Members of the San Francisco Giants front office are reportedly in Los Angeles to meet with Stanton's representatives, sources tell SiriusXM's Craig Mish. A source of The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal later confirmed the meeting.
The Giants are making a serious push in the recruitment effort, as executive VP of baseball operations Brian Sabean, general manager Bobby Evans, and head coach Bruce Bochy were all on hand for the meeting.
Unsurprisingly, the Giants are aiming to determine whether or not Stanton will consider waiving his full no-trade clause to play by the bay, according to ESPN's Buster Olney.
The Giants emerged as a potential favorite to snag Stanton after it was revealed the team is willing to absorb the remaining $295 million on his massive contract.
The Miami Marlins are supposedly open to accepting a trade in which the Giants take on the majority of the contract as Miami attempts to shave payroll.
The St. Louis Cardinals have been seen as the other aggressive suitor in prying the reigning National League MVP from his home in South Florida.
Stanton does have an opt-out clause that he can exercise after the 2020 season, so there is a chance whichever team acquires him will get him for only three seasons.
