49ers' Reid: NFL just redirecting funds for social justice programs

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Eric Reid isn't applauding the league for Wednesday's reported commitment of nearly $100 million to social justice programs.

Reid says the money is just being redirected from various existing programs.

"It’s a charade," Reid said, according to Jeremy Stahl of Slate.com. "It’s basically going to be an NFL Cares."

Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins said Wednesday that he'll cease raising his fist during the national anthem out of appreciation for the reported agreement, but Reid says Jenkins is the only player of 17 involved in this proposal to support the league's pledge.

"In the discussion that we had, Malcolm conveyed to us - based on discussions that he had with the NFL - that the money would come from funds that are already allocated to breast cancer awareness and Salute to Service," Reid said. "So it would really be no skin off the owners’ backs: They would just move the money from those programs to this one."

He added: "We didn’t agree with that, because we weren’t trying to cut other worthy programs."
