Report: Cardinals to meet with Stanton's reps in Los Angeles
The St. Louis Cardinals aren't done making an impression on Giancarlo Stanton as members of the organization are expected to meet with the Miami Marlins slugger's representatives Friday in Los Angeles, sources confirmed to Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
The Cardinals' interest in Stanton is known as the club previously exchanged trade concepts with the Marlins and are said to be aggressively pursuing a deal for the 28-year-old outfielder. It remains to be seen if Stanton would waive his full no-trade clause to move to St. Louis.
The San Francisco Giants - another team hot on Stanton's trail - met with the 2017 National League MVP on Thursday. It was reported that the Giants are willing to take on a large portion of Stanton's remaining $295-million salary. The Marlins are said to be focusing on a combination of prospects including Tyler Beede, Chris Shaw, Heliot Ramos, and Aramis Garcia in a deal for the slugger, according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald. Giants second baseman Joe Panik is also said to be of interest to the Marlins.
