Adams' perfect night puts him in rare company
On a night when Russell Westbrook wasn't on, the Oklahoma City Thunder got a career performance from Steven Adams in their 111-107 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
With an 11-for-11 shooting night from the floor and 5-of-5 from the foul line, the Kiwi big man became just the second player since 1983 to be perfect on at least 11 field goal and five free-throw attempts in a game. The other was Hall of Famer Chris Mullin.
Adams' career-high 27 points came with a plus-18 performance, the difference in the Thunder's first win over Minnesota in three tries this season. He even ran the floor off a steal and finished with a Eurostep, something that impressed both former teammate Enes Kanter and current one Westbrook.
Westbrook's shooting struggles included going 0-for-8 from beyond the arc and 6-for-21 overall. Still, he came up only one assist short of a triple-double. Paul George was the usual defensive force for OKC, while scoring a game-high 36 and going a perfect 11-for-11 from the foul line himself.
Adams' value to the Thunder continues to go beyond the box score. In addition to remaining a reliable rim protector, he leads the team in win shares per 48 minutes. While Friday's perfect outing came against a suspect defensive performance from opposing pivot Karl-Anthony Towns, there's little doubting Adams' efficiency these days: He's now shooting 64.1 percent from the floor on the season.
