Report: Cardinals include prospect Alcantara in offer for Stanton
The St. Louis Cardinals are reportedly dipping into their strong group of pitching prospects in their efforts to acquire Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton.
The centerpiece of the Cardinals' offer to the Marlins is 22-year-old right-hander Sandy Alcantara, a source told SiriusXM's Craig Mish. Additionally, the team has apparently offered a bit more money than its main trade rival in the Stanton sweepstakes, the San Francisco Giants.

Alcantara, whom the Cardinals signed as an amateur free agent in 2013, made his major-league debut in 2017, making a brief jump from Double-A. He appeared in only eight games, recording a 4.32 ERA while striking out 10 and walking six in 8 1/3 innings.
Used primarily as a starter in the minors, Alcantara went 7-5 with a 4.31 ERA across 125 1/3 innings for the Springfield Cardinals of the Texas League. MLB Pipeline lists him as the Cardinals' ninth-best prospect overall, and fourth among pitchers.
