Report: Phillies agree to 3-year, $60M deal with Carlos Santana
It's been a busy day in the City of Brotherly Love.
The Philadelphia Phillies agreed to a three-year, $60-million deal with first baseman Carlos Santana on Friday, reports Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.
The deal, which would be the largest of the offseason thus far, is pending a physical, according to MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez, who also notes Santana's contract will contain a $17.5-million team option.
Because the Indians made Santana a qualifying offer (which he rejected), Cleveland should receive a compensation draft pick between the first round and competitive balance round A in the 2018 MLB draft, according to MLB.com's Jordan Bastian.
Santana is set to join a rebuilding Phillies club that traded shortstop Freddy Galvis to the San Diego Padres earlier in the day.

The 31-year-old was a popular target in free agency, and apparently had a three-year offer on the table from the Boston Red Sox, although it wasn't in the $60-million range, according to a major-league source of the Boston Globe's Alex Speier.
Santana hit .259/.363/.455 with 23 home runs, 37 doubles, and 79 RBIs for the Cleveland Indians last season, and owns a .249/.365/.445 slash line with 174 home runs and 587 RBIs over his eight-year career.
