Report: Yankees scouting Diamondbacks' Corbin

The New York Yankees may not be finished on the offseason trade market, as the club is digging into the background of Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Patrick Corbin, according to a report from Buster Olney of ESPN.

The 28-year-old left-hander posted a 4.03 ERA and 4.08 FIP over 189 2/3 innings last season. Corbin underwent Tommy John surgery prior to the 2014 season and is entering his final season of arbitration.

While Corbin is a pending free agent, it is uncertain whether the Diamondbacks are willing to deal one of their best starters after a postseason berth in 2017.

Zack Greinke, Robbie Ray, and Taijuan Walker comprise the front of the Diamondbacks' rotation, while Zack Godley and Corbin made up the final two spots last year with Shelby Miller shelved after Tommy John surgery. Only Greinke and Corbin pitched more than 170 innings in 2017.

The Yankees had the seventh-best starting rotation in all of baseball last year, with the Diamondbacks finishing second behind the Cleveland Indians. Heading into next season, New York boasts Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, Sonny Gray, and CC Sabathia as rotation mainstays with multiple internal options to fill the fifth starter role.
