Isaiah Thomas to make season debut Tuesday, but will sit vs. Celtics
Isaiah Thomas is finally ready to play.
Thomas will make his debut for the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Portland Trail Blazers Tuesday following months on the shelf with a hip injury, according to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe.
However, he will not play Wednesday against his former team in the Boston Celtics, as Thomas is not yet ready to play in back-to-backs. Thomas will also come off the bench and be tied to a minutes restriction.
“My hip is better but I have no rhythm ... It feels like I lost my powers ... but once I get out there it’s going to be too hard to hold me back,” Thomas said at practice Monday, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin.
Thomas posted the best season of his career while leading the Celtics to the Eastern Conference Finals last season. The diminutive lead guard averaged 28.9 points per game and was named to the All-NBA team.
The Cavaliers will undoubtedly go through some growing pains as they incorporate a ball-dominant guard like Thomas into the offense. But that shouldn't be much different than when Kyrie Irving was the No. 2 option to LeBron James in the last three seasons.
