Bayern Munich confirms interest in Schalke's Leon Goretzka
Bayern Munich's blueprint includes FC Schalke 04's Leon Goretzka.
Hasan Salihamidzic, Bayern's sporting director, confirmed on Wednesday that the club is interested in the German midfielder, who boasts six goals and 12 caps at the international level and tallied four strikes in 11 appearances in the first half of the Bundesliga season. Liverpool is reportedly also keen on the product of VfL Bochum 1848.
"Leon Goretzka is a great player, that's clear," Salihamidzic said, according to the Press Association. "He is a Schalke player and we obviously respect that. But he is a Germany international and we can say that we are interested in him."
SPORT BILD's Christian Falk reported Goretzka will sign a contract in Munich and become a footballer at Bayern in July. The deal will apparently not include a transfer fee.
Goretzka tallied three goals as Germany won the Confederations Cup, scoring the winner in Die Mannschaft's 3-2 victory over Australia and a brace in its 4-1 win against Mexico in the semi-finals. He subsequently matched that total in his national team's final three 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
