Panthers release Johnson, Coleman
The Carolina Panthers released a pair of veterans Monday, announcing they have parted ways with defensive end Charles Johnson and safety Kurt Coleman.
Johnson spent his entire career with the Panthers since being selected in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft. The 31-year-old sits second on the franchise's all-time leaderboard in both sacks and forced fumbles.
Coleman's tenure with the Panthers ends after three seasons. The former seventh-round pick broke into the league with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010 and had stops with the Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Chiefs before joining the Panthers.
Johnson appeared in 12 games last season for the Panthers, 11 starts, and registered 16 combined tackles. Coleman also appeared in 12 games and recorded 76 combined tackles with three passes defended.
