Report: Dolphins plan to release Suh

The Miami Dolphins are planning to release defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh as early as Monday, according to Jeff Darlington of ESPN.

Darlington adds that the formal release that would make Suh available to other teams is likely to happen on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old is a five-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro. He made 47 combined tackles last season, adding 4.5 sacks and two forced fumbles.

Suh signed a six-year, $114-million contract with the Dolphins in March 2015 as a free agent, after spending the first five years of his career with the Detroit Lions, who selected him second overall in the 2010 draft.

Suh represented a cap hit of $26.1 million in 2018.

Cutting Suh will leave the Dolphins with $22.2 million in dead cap space, according to Spotrac. Applying the post-June 1 designation to his release will allow them to spread that hit over the next two seasons, with $9.1 million counting against the 2018 cap and $13.1 million left to count against the cap for 2019, according to Edward Lewis of NFL.com.

Suh shared a tweet Monday morning stating that he was in Seattle and that his followers "should stay tuned, there'll be some exciting news going on."
