Report: Celtics' Smart out indefinitely with torn tendon in right thumb
The Boston Celtics are losing bodies left and right.
Backup Marcus Smart has suffered a torn tendon in his right thumb, and will be out indefinitely after receiving a second opinion, league sources told Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania.
He joins an ever-growing list of players on the roster currently dealing with ailments, including, but not limited to, Kyrie Irving (knee) and Jaylen Brown (concussion). Big man Daniel Theis is also likely done for the remainder of the 2017-18 season with a torn meniscus in his left knee.
Smart has played in Boston's last eight games after missing time with a self-inflicted hand injury, which stemmed from punching a picture frame on the wall of a hotel.
He's made 54 total appearances this season, averaging 10.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.3 steals for the 46-21 Celtics, who have a comfortable seven-game lead over the Indiana Pacers for the second seed in the Eastern Conference.
