Till to headline UFC's 1st show in Liverpool on May 27
Darren Till's will has been done.
The surging welterweight will headline the UFC's first visit to his native Liverpool against a yet-to-be-determined opponent on May 27 at Echo Arena, the promotion announced Friday prior to UFC Fight Night 127's ceremonial weigh-ins.
The development comes after rumors had the UFC ditching the date's original destination of Dublin for the English city, with Till the obvious front-runner to fight in the bill's main event. When asked who he'd like to share the Octagon with on the promotion's maiden voyage to his hometown, Till set his sights on two-time welterweight title challenger Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson.
Till, 25, is undefeated in 17 pro bouts, a majority draw opposite Nicholas Dalby at UFC Fight Night 76 the closest he's ever come to defeat. The Scouser has won three straight since the 2015 tilt, and most recently stopped Donald Cerrone by first-round TKO in a breakthrough showing at UFC Fight Night 118 in October.
Also announced for the bill were a pair of middleweight bouts, with Englishman Tom Breese meeting Dan Kelly and Elias Theodorou taking on Trevor Smith.
