49ers trade up to grab slot weapon Pettis
Jennifer Buchanan / USA TODAY Sports
The San Francisco 49ers selected wide receiver Dante Pettis out of Washington in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, 44th overall, following a trade with the Washington Redskins.
The 49ers sent the No. 59 and No. 74 picks to the Redskins in exchange for No. 44 and No. 142.
Pettis excels from the slot and could provide Jimmy Garoppolo with a reliable weapon in key situations. The 6-foot-1 pass-catcher should also make an immediate impact as a returner.

What the analysts are saying
- "Solid secondary receiving option who has spent time on his craft and has the ability to attack and uncover on all three levels. Pettis lacks physicality and could struggle to handle in-your-face press corners, so he may see snaps from the slot." - Lance Zierlein, NFL.com
- "Elite hip fluidity and change-of-direction skills. Much quicker than fast. Open-field proficiency evidenced with his historic production as a returner. Good hands. Very thin-framed. Physical corners will give him problems." - CBS Sports
