The Detroit Lions have selected offensive tackle Tyrell Crosby out of Oregon with the 153rd overall pick in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Crosby's selection shows a clear initiative by the Lions to upgrade the offensive line in Matt Patricia's first draft as head coach. The club previously took center Frank Ragnow out of Arkansas with the 20th overall pick in the opening round.

Crosby was graded by many pundits as one of the top offensive tackles in the draft, so the fact the Lions were able to get him at the 153rd pick represents incredible value.

What the analysts are saying

  • "Wide body with very good combination of mass and length for the tackle spot. Drive blocker with exceptional strength." - Lance Zierlein, NFL.com
  • "Given his success on the left tackle, Crosby deserves an opportunity to remain on the blindside, though his bulk and physicality suggest that a move back to right tackle or even inside at guard could be in the forecast." - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
