The Atlanta Falcons have selected running back Ito Smith out of Southern Mississippi with the 126th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Smith joins a backfield that already boasts one of the best tandems in the league in Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman, though the latter is entering a contract season.

What the analysts are saying

  • "For all of his production on the ground, Smith lacks the explosive qualities of a slasher. Smith's lack of size and burst could hinder his chances as a running back, but his talents as a pass-catcher could keep him alive in a camp." - Lance Zierlein, NFL.com
  • "At worst, Smith is a change-of-pace back in the NFL with the grit and all-purpose skills to handle a heavier workload if needed." - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
