Report: Kawhi rehabbing in New York; no timetable for return
Kawhi Leonard's bizarre injury saga continues.
The San Antonio Spurs superstar returned to New York on Monday to continue his rehabilitation from a quad injury, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Michael C. Wright.
It's the second trip Leonard has made to the Big Apple, having gone there last month for a second opinion on his right quad tendinopathy injury after San Antonio's medical staff cleared him to play. The team reportedly sent staff to N.Y. to monitor the elite two-way forward.
Coach Gregg Popovich and Leonard's teammates have been operating as if they don't expect the two-time Defensive Player of the Year to return to the fold this season. For his part, Leonard said more than three weeks ago he plans to be back "soon," with Popovich making it clear the decision rests with the forward's private team of doctors.
There's reportedly no timetable for the 2014 Finals MVP's return to Texas.

Leonard, 26, averaged 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, two steals, and a block in limited action this year. He's running out of time to re-join the Spurs, who've managed to remain in the playoff picture and sit in fourth place with six regular-season games remaining.
"The Claw" has one guaranteed year left on his deal but is eligible for a $217-million max contract extension with San Antonio this summer.
