The Arizona Cardinals selected quarterback Josh Rosen out of UCLA with the 10th overall pick in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
The pick was acquired in a trade with the Oakland Raiders.
Rosen was a prodigious high school talent who met the hype upon starting as a true freshman at UCLA. Gifted with outstanding touch on his passes, he can immediately compete for the starting role with the Cardinals.
The quarterback possesses excellent arm strength and should be able to get the most out of David Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald.
Josh Rosen Bio
Position: QB
School: UCLA
College Experience: Junior
Height: 6-4
Weight: 226 lbs
Strengths
- Calm and collected, with a strong pocket presence, and footwork that helps him evade pressure without the benefit of above-average athleticism.
- Highly developed in terms of understanding how much velocity to put on throws. Uses touch to lead receivers and to hit windows that others QBs in this class can't.
- Very good arm strength. Showcases the ability to rifle in throws when necessary, and shouldn't have any limitations at the pro level.
- Exceptional ball placement at times, especially over the middle of the field.
- Advanced in reading defenses. Consistently moves to his second or third option.
Weaknesses
- Only a decent athlete. Able to pick up some yards on forced scrambles and moves well outside the pocket, but is consistently brought down by the first or second rusher.
- Can be overly aggressive; he's tempted by killer shots rather than taking what the defense gives him.
- Inconsistent deep-ball thrower who's prone to poor downfield decisions.
- Has a long injury history, including knee and shoulder issues, and a concussion.
